DETAILS of how the US plan to take down Islamic State have been drawn up by the Pentagon.
Defence Secretary Jim Mattis will brief senior administration officials in the White House later on Monday, a Defence department spokesman told reporters.
Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said it was the framework for a broader plan and looked at Islamic State around the world, not just Iraq and Syria.
He added that Mattis would brief members of the cabinet-level Principals Committee on Monday afternoon.
President Trump is seeking to boost Pentagon spending by $54 billion while slashing foreign aid.
President Trump signed an executive order directing Secretary of Mr Mattis to deliver a comprehensive plan for defeating the Islamic StateAnd he gave him 30-days to do it.
During his presidential campaign the former businessman vowed he would bring about the defeat of the terror network.
"The situation with ISIS has to be dealt with firmly and strongly," Trump told CNN.
He insisted he would go much further, and be more aggressive than Obama, by ordering US armed forces to "bomb the hell" out of oil fields in areas under ISIS control.
Experts have said plans could include sending troops to Syria - but their role would be supporting and advising - not combat.
Mr Mattis said he did want to change the approach in Iraq and Syria from that agreed by Obama.
"I think it's getting there as rapidly as possible, where it would be a more accelerated campaign," Mattis said.
